Jetstar to receive first 787s by year's end

AUSTRALIA will welcome its first Dreamliners when Jetstar receives three Boeing 787s at the end of the year, Qantas Group executives confirmed today.

But Qantas chief executive Alan Joyce and Jetstar boss Jayne Hrdlicka did not reveal a firm date for the advanced plane's entry into service.

There was also no confirmation of the first route, although Ms Hrdlicka said it would operate to destinations such as Honolulu, Phuket and Tokyo now serviced by the airline's existing Airbus A330 aircraft.

"We have to work through a process obviously of getting the aircraft through the test and training phase and into the air and that will take a few weeks, a few months," Mr Joyce said.

"So we will be making further announcements later on in the year about what the first destinations are and when the aircraft will first get into service. Stay tuned for that announcement.
